Three areas to plan separately
- Screen surfaceUse model-appropriate protection and keep hard parts away from the face.
- Housing and movementAssess fitted support, cushioning and the carton as one system.
- Stand and accessoriesProtect and separate each part so it cannot strike the display.
1. Identify the display before removing anything
Find the model number and measure the outside width, height and depth; diagonal screen size alone does not describe the housing, curve or projecting controls. Note the approximate weight, existing damage and which accessories need to travel. Photograph the condition for your own records.
Read the manufacturer's instructions for that model before removing the stand or positioning the display. A flat, curved or OLED panel may need a different handling surface or protective cover. If removal is unclear, leave it for assessment rather than forcing a release or opening the housing.
- Unplug the display and disconnect external cables before preparation
- List the stand, base, power supply, cables and mounting hardware
- For a warranty return, use the return instructions and requested accessory list supplied for that case
2. Check the original box and fitted inserts
Bring the matching carton, all shaped supports and any original protective sleeve if you still have them. Check for crushed or wet cardboard, cracked inserts and missing pieces. A box with the brand name on it is not enough if the supports no longer fit or hold the display.
Follow the packing layout and orientation specified for that model. Original packaging should be assessed for the proposed journey; having it does not automatically mean it is ready for repeated parcel shipping. An additional outer carton may be appropriate, depending on its condition and the selected packing system.
3. Keep pressure and loose hardware away from the screen
Separate the stand and accessories from the display face so a hard part cannot move against the panel. Remove a detachable stand only by the method permitted for that model. Keep screws labelled with the part they belong to, and protect accessories so they cannot shift or puncture the carton.
Screen protection, support around the housing and control of movement have different jobs. A protective surface layer must suit the panel finish; fitted support and cushioning must hold the display without concentrating force on the screen. Do not assume a stack of wrap or a tight box solves all three.
4. No original box? Have the display assessed first
Tell the packing team that fitted packaging is missing before buying a carton or bringing in a large display. The housing, curve, weight, accessories and journey determine whether a suitable support system and corrugated carton can be prepared. A large empty box with loose filling is not a complete plan.
Avoid choosing one cushioning thickness, face-up or face-down position for every monitor. Manufacturer directions and the actual packing system take priority. Very large, unusually shaped or damaged screens may need another transport or specialist arrangement. Call to discuss the item before committing to a drop-off.
5. Separate packing from the shipping decision
Say whether you need packing only, collection of a prepared package or packing with shipping. A shipment quote also needs the destination, final packed size and weight, selected service and timing. Packing completion and recipient arrival are separate dates.
Review current carrier acceptance and declared-value terms for the actual shipment. This preparation guide does not establish coverage or a damage-free delivery guarantee. Manufacturer return requirements may also differ from a general parcel shipment.
What to send for a Charlotte monitor-packing quote
Start with the information below. Pack Charlotte can review the display and available materials before the final packing plan is agreed. Discuss a large or time-sensitive display before bringing it to the North Charlotte shop. A photo can help later if available, but it is not required to start the enquiry.
- Exact model, outside dimensions, approximate weight and number of displays
- Flat or curved panel, condition and any special handling instructions
- Original carton, fitted inserts and covers available or missing
- Stand, power supply and other accessories to include
- Packing only or shipping too, destination pattern and required dates
Manufacturer and carrier references
Dell's monitor-return guidance separates the display from the stand and accessories and calls for following the box instructions. ASUS provides LCD-monitor packing guidance, including detachable stands and movement control. These are manufacturer examples; check your own model and return instructions. FedEx's general screen guide also discusses stands and peripherals. Carrier-specific terms and packing programmes are not automatically Pack Charlotte services.
